Center for Continuing Professional Development “Institute of Postgraduate Education” is headed by Svitlana Mykolaivna Burenok.

Professional development and advanced training of specialists are carried out in the following specialties: Anesthesiology, Health Care Organization and Management, Pediatrics, Radiology, Dentistry, Nursing, Functional Diagnostics, and Surgery. 

The continuous professional development of medical professionals is ensured through formal, non-formal, and informal learning, including thematic improvement courses, simulation trainings, practical skills workshops, professional (thematic) schools, master classes, and medical internships.

Distance learning technologies are actively used for all forms of training in real-time with the use of digital resources, including the MOODLE electronic learning management system and other electronic educational materials. Learners have access to an electronic library.

  • The Center holds licenses for educational activities issued by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine: AE No. 280529 and AE No. 636051.

  • The Center has been operating since 2008. As of the end of 2022, 1,003 physicians and nursing specialists have completed training at the Center

Educational activities at the State Scientific Institution “Center for Innovative Health Technologies” of the State Management of Affairs in the field of postgraduate education are carried out within the area of knowledge 01 – Health Care and Social Welfare, in the specialties 12 – Medicine (internship, advanced training) and 15 – Nursing (by specialization).

Graduates of higher medical education institutions may undergo both the educational and practical parts of their internship training at the Center in the following specialties: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Dermatovenereology, Neurology, Otorhinolaryngology, and Surgery.
Additionally, practical training (internship placement) can be arranged in more than ten other specialties.

For postgraduate education seekers, specialization programs are offered in the following fields: Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Dermatovenereology, Neurology, Health Care Organization and Management, Otorhinolaryngology, Ultrasound Diagnostics, Surgery, and Surgical Dermatology.

In cooperation with the Scientific Department of Health Care Organization, the Center for Professional Development “Institute of Postgraduate Education” has launched the training of specialists (Master’s degree) in the specialty 19 – Public Health, as well as educational components of postgraduate (PhD) training programs for applicants of the educational and scientific level of higher education.

Curriculum development and teaching are carried out by research staff from the scientific departments and clinical physicians who hold academic degrees. All instructors have obtained pedagogical qualifications, confirmed by certificates of advanced training for teaching staff in the specialty A1 – Educational Sciences.

The Center for Professional Development “Institute of Postgraduate Education” is equipped with modern training facilities and spacious, well-lit classrooms. It includes simulation (training) and computer labs, while practical classes in clinical disciplines are conducted in real clinical settings, within clinical and diagnostic departments that provide direct medical care to patients. This approach reflects one of the key principles of educational activity at the State Scientific Institution “Center for Innovative Health Technologies” of the State Management of Affairs — practice-oriented learning.

Advantages of training at the Continuing Professional Development Center:

  • The educational process in the Center’s departments is provided by 12 Doctors of Medical Sciences and 23 Candidates of Medical Sciences.
  • Modern simulators, mannequins, phantoms, and other visual materials are used.
  • Computer programs are employed for learning, training, and assessment purposes. The Center has its own computer classroom.
  • Unique in Ukraine internship cycles are conducted for surgeons, urologists, gynecologists, and vascular surgeons to master high-tech minimally invasive surgical procedures for diseases of the digestive organs, blood vessels, kidneys, prostate, uterus, and others.
  • The methodological support of the educational process is carried out in accordance with the current regulatory documents of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
  • Training plans and programs for thematic improvement cycles, professional schools, and simulation trainings for physicians are reviewed by the Scientific and Methodological Council of SIS “CIHT” SAD and approved by the Deputy Director for Clinical Work.
  • Training plans and programs for physician internship cycles are reviewed by the Scientific and Methodological Council of SIS “CIHT” SAD, agreed upon with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and approved by the Director of SIS “CIHT” SAD.

The main mission of the staff of the Center for Professional Development “Institute of Postgraduate Education”, which they successfully fulfill, is to organize high-quality training and professional development of medical personnel, maintaining their high professional competence to ensure the provision of highly qualified medical care to the population of the capital.

Training Center

The instructors of the Training Center have undergone specialized training programs in Europe and Ukraine. Three instructors (out of twelve in Ukraine) received instructor diplomas from the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and are certified to teach Advanced Life Support (ALS) courses across Europe.

The Center has been operating since 2006 and provides educational activities based on the License of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine AG No. 582704.

The Center conducts postgraduate training in emergency medical care in extreme situations, with a licensed annual intake of 1,000 trainees. Training is offered to physicians, junior medical professionals, and individuals without a medical background through 3-day and 2-day cycles following training plans and programs approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Training Format:

  • Short-term intensive training cycles in emergency medical care
  • 18 hours for medical personnel
  • 12–18 hours for non-medical participants
  • Practical skills are trained on modern, realistic mannequins
  • Scenario-based simulations closely mimic real-life emergencies

Training plans and programs are approved by the Scientific and Methodological Council of SIS “CIHT” SAD, coordinated with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and approved by the Director of SIS “CIHT” SAD. All lectures and practical sessions include detailed teaching materials for instructors.

Facilities and Equipment:

The Training Center is equipped with the latest AMBU International simulators, enabling participants to master practical skills in:

  • Adult and pediatric resuscitation
  • Airway management
  • Defibrillation
  • Transport immobilization
  • Hemorrhage control
  • Foreign body airway obstruction
  • Poisoning, burns, trauma, acute illnesses
  • Childbirth in out-of-hospital settings

Achievements and Activities:

Instructors actively participate in organizing, conducting, and judging annual international emergency medical team championships, including:

  • “Halytski Medical Rally” (2008–2009, Lviv)
  • “International Emergency Medical Competition” (2010, Ternopil)
  • III Podilsk International Competition of Ambulance Teams (2011, Kamianets-Podilskyi)
  • IV National Open Championship of Ambulance Teams (2012, Rivne)
  • Ukrainian Emergency Medical Team Championship (2013, Kyiv)

Through international cooperation between Ukraine and Poland, the Center coordinates groups of Ukrainian physicians for the first international Ukrainian-language ALS courses in Krakow, Poland, supported by the European and Polish Resuscitation Councils.

In April 2010 and July 2013, commissions from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, who studied the experience of SIS “CIHT” SAD, recommended using the Training Center’s experience in emergency medical care as a model for implementation in other healthcare institutions in Ukraine.
