Stool, Anal, and Gynecological Examinations

Stool Analysis (General)

  •  Collect the stool sample in a single-use plastic container with a spoon, in an amount no more than 1/3 of the container volume.
  • The collected stool must be delivered to the laboratory quickly, as prolonged storage causes changes due to microbes and enzymes.
  • Do not collect stool after an enema or after taking certain medications (belladonna, pilocarpine) that change intestinal peristalsis or affect the stool color (iron, bismuth, barium).

How to Prepare for a Gynecological Examination
  • Before visiting the gynecologist, you need to take a shower and wear clean underwear. Empty your bladder immediately before the examination.
  • A few days before: It is advisable to exclude sexual contact, do not douche, and do not use vaginal suppositories or creams.
  • 2 weeks before: Stop taking antibacterial drugs.
  • Shaving pubic hair is not mandatory.
  • It is important to inform the doctor about taking any medications or contraceptives.
  • The best time for a gynecological examination is the first week after the end of menstruation. However, if certain health problems arise, you must see a doctor regardless of the menstrual cycle phase.

The following information from the patient is important for the obstetrician-gynecologist:
– complaints – do you have any disorders of the genitourinary system, namely pain in the pelvic area, pain during urination and sexual intercourse, rash, itching, burning sensation in the external genital area;
– information about menstrual function – at what age did your menstrual cycle begin, the duration and regularity of the cycle, the duration and volume of menstruation itself, the date of your last menstruation;
– information about reproductive function – number of pregnancies, births, abortions, miscarriages, course of pregnancies and births, presence of complications;
– information about sex life – onset of sex life, use of contraceptives, presence of a permanent partner, regularity of sex life;
– history of gynecological diseases – date of last gynecological examination, doctor’s advisory opinion, past gynecological diseases, their treatment, and the effect achieved.

The above information will help your doctor make a diagnosis and prescribe treatment.

It is important to obtain the mucosal cells (use flocked or brush swabs). The swab with the material is submerged in transport medium.
